>>1. DEVIL’S FOOD Well, why the hell not overlay a map of Mission cupcakeries with one of Mission gangs? Either it’s a statement on encroaching gentrification — or it’s giving us a craving for a Norteño with cinnamon sprinkles.
>>2. A FISTFUL OF HISTORY Here is a picture of that giant box of dildos that we wrote about in our review of the new GLBT Historical Museum in the Castro. (Really, you should go.)
>>3. TWITTER FOR TATER TOTS Yo, why aren’t you following Clare’s Deli on Twitter? The delicious Mission home-cookin’ hotbed — located mere steps from the 500 Club at 17th St and Guerrero; Clare’s will deliver your food to the bar! — serves up the kind of food that induces daydreams (and daytime-drinking dreams), including “The Grinder,” a flawless meatball-sandwich specimen. (Goes great with a 500 Club vodka tonic.) Clare’s is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-11 p.m., which means you can cure your hangover with some tater tots in the morning, then fill your gut later that same day with a happy hour bologna and cheese. Hell, you might even check back late-night; sometimes they have bacon-infused cookies and cupcakes for dessert. The helpful website lists all the important info, but to really keep your greasy finger on the pulse, follow Clare’s for tweet updates. That way, you’ll always be in the loop when crispy tacos or a traditional Thanksgiving feast (good year ’round!) appear on the specials board.
>>4. MENU ITEM TO DIE FOR Korean beef short rib “tacos,” on a bed of rice, nori and kim topped with daikon-and-kimchee salsa, kimchee remoulade, and kalbi demi glace, $8 at Namu.
>>5. LOVE, LOVE ME DODO Third album No Color by local folk-punky heroes the Dodos got a big review on Pitchfork today, mostly happy face, but you can judge for yourself when you buy it for yourself (here’s the lovely first track).
