The mayoral elections are over. San Francisco politicos have long since rolled out of rumpled election night beds, kissed their partners for the first time in months, and tossed those worn-down precinct-walkers out for something a little more comfortable. Now our eyes turn to the presidential election, which despite Ed Lee’s mustache is decidedly less sexy (blame it on the overexposure, c’mon Republican ladies and gentlemen can you leave nothing to our imagination?)
And now Herman Cain’s lawyers are telling sexual harassment victims to “think twice” before coming forward to accuse their inspirational speaker-cum-client? Sound like they need to attend the first sex-positive get-together on our list… read on.
What You Really Really Want reading
We’re too frumpy or too slutty, too forward or trampled-upon – the world can be a frustrating place when it comes to women constructing their sexuality. Enter author Jaclyn Friedman, whose new book What You Really Really Want: The Smart Girl’s Shame-Free Guide to Sex and Safety, hold wisdom for those who wish to cut through the advice column grief. She’s elaborating on her findings tonight, at the Center for Sex and Culture.

Pink
How about a full Friday night of Pink? Mission Control’s women-only play party can’t stop adding onto the party. First it was the “playshop” before the party that teaches the skills you need to land the ladies. Dance moves and the laws of attraction have been featured in the past and this week Tim Emert and Francesa Gentille will be sharing the secrets of soulful flirting. If that’s not enough for you, venture to the roof of Medjool for a special menu of yes, pink drinks with your companions for the evening.

Women’s comedy night
Given that Occupy Oakland isn’t on the move again (a march caused the Oakland lounge to reschedule this night last month) tonight will host a whole passel of XX-fueled yucks. Or is that XXX? The Facebook event insists that the line-up’s material won’t be all about sex but a. they had to say so and b., the night is sponsored by Oakland’s sex-positivity hub (and our favorite new queer-oriented sex shop) Feelmore510, so there’s sure to be something naughty coming out of these womens’ mouths.

The Road to Shameless: A Survivor’s Tale of Sexual Assault and Healing reading
When Nancy Donoval was 19, she went out one night and was raped by a “friend.” She didn’t know that was called rape, but she does now. Donoval is the author of The Road to Shameless, the tale of how she took that extreme violation and learned from it. Her stories are well-known for being gut-wrenching and hilarious in one fell swoop – this is a great chance to see pathos and play mashed into a single stage performance.
