I always walk by the red kettles without putting in money. Mostly that’s because I like Jon Carroll’s Untied Way — I give money directly to panhandlers and cut out the middle man.

But I have a special dislike for charities that talk of good works to hide their institutional bigotry. And now this.

Skip the kettle. Give the Untied Way.
