UNAFF was conceived to celebrate the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is currently screening films for the 16th year in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, and at Stanford University.
The theme for this year is “Individual to Universal.” UNAFF celebrates the power of films dealing with human rights, environmental themes, women’s issues, population, homelessness, racism, children, health, universal education, war, and peace. In the past sixteen years, UNAFF has attracted a broad audience from the San Francisco Bay Area with regards to ethnicity – many finding the screenings to be a rare chance to see the state of human rights and culture in their own native countries. UNAFF promotes education, awareness and social change through images, dialogue and action.
UNAFF comes to San Francisco this Wednesday, October 23 at Ninth Street Independent Film Center (125 Ninth St., SF). Films include The Story of an Egg (USA), Irish Folk Furniture (Ireland), Shady Chocolate (Denmark/Ivory Coast), and Shift Change (Spain/USA), followed by the panel discussion “Alternative Economic Models.”
